LT Phisterer of the 2nd Battalion 18th United States Infantry fight alongside other US Infantry Regiments within the Regular Brigade at the Battle of Stones River. On 31 December 1862, the Regular Brigade held a precarious line of battle in the Cedar Forest to allow the Union Army of the Cumberland to stabilize a third line.
